Model 18 crutchtip - 06/07/18 02:38 PM

I have a model 18 crutchtip and can't find much information on the early models. I have seen some that come with a Johnson sheath, but mine came with a Randall sheath. It has the proper markings on the crutchtip and I have had it since 1974 so I know it is the sheath that came with it. If anyone has any information or can direct me to it I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

That "is" a Johnson sheath.

No Johnson I have seen was stamped with the Randall logo which this was, but I haven't seen too many good pictures yet.

Thank you for the reply Capt. Chris, you seem to know your Randalls, do you have a good source that I can find info on the crutchtip model? With all the resources of the internet,I can't find when they came out or how long they were made etc.

Randall sheath's were made by Johnson and marked with the Randall Logo.
Good resources for information are these forums and you can use the "search" function at the top of the page to research the Crutchtip 18's.
Other good sources are the reference books:
Randall Made Knives The History of the Man and the Blades by Robert Gaddis
Randall Knives - A Reference Book by Wickersham
Also, the contributors to this forum are very knowledgeable and will probably chime in with other information.
Thanks for finding these forums and hope you will continue to follow them!

This is exactly why I joined this forum. Not just the information but the people on it, I watched for awhile before registering so I knew what to expect. Thanks Blades for the reply and the lead.

Whoa, I just searched Amazon for Wickershams reference book and it is listed from $3200 to $8500!!! Is this book that rare?

RT, I think you will find this link to an old RKS newsletter helpful.

I just purchased a couple of them this past Sunday in a big collection that I'm sorting through.

tune you're a godsend my friend, this is the most informative thing I've found to date and really explains a lot of details. I talked to a knife seller a few years back at a gun and knife show who had several Randall's and a sign advertising them to pick his brain for info. This guy proceeds to tell me that the market for Randall knives just isn't what it once was and tells me that my knife isn't one that is very sought after but he was generous enough to offer me $350. I put it back in my safe and haven't thought much about it until after my dad passed ( he loved it).
Sorry for the rant but thank you for taking the time to help educate a novice.

Glad it helped RT. There is a ton of reference material on my site. Anything we can do for a new collector is good for the hobby.

RT, several years ago, the market was not what it is today, so don't give the guy too much grief...
Nice knife!!
Glad to have you on board!!!
