Re: BEDGOOD KNIVES - 11/27/11 08:39 AM

Jimmy knives are very well made, easy to get sharp and stay sharp. I field dressed two White Tails, then touched up the edge onthe stones and field dressed two more. I also skinned all four. Now it is time to buther and make burger, sausage, and steaks. Walt RKS#5924

Re: BEDGOOD KNIVES - 12/03/11 04:45 PM

Here are a couple more blades that I started today. I have some more file work and sanding to do. The handles will be the stabilized spalted sycamore in the background. It will also have a single brass hilt with brass butt cap.

Re: BEDGOOD KNIVES - 12/03/11 07:33 PM

Do you use a particular brand of file to make your knives?

I'm thinking of starting up knife making too.

Re: BEDGOOD KNIVES - 12/03/11 09:30 PM

Probably not from China and you'll be ok.

Re: BEDGOOD KNIVES - 12/03/11 09:42 PM

Rob,
I look for USA companies for my files. I go to the local flea markets around here and usally get them out of old rusty tool boxes. The price is anywhere from .50 to 1.00 most of the time.

Pappy if it is from China or Pakistan, they will not be bought or used by me.

Re: BEDGOOD KNIVES - 12/03/11 10:44 PM

Yep, I figured that coming from a patriot like you. I would think old tools at garage sales or auctions that have mid 1900 USA files would be some of the best. Sorta like old man Rudy Ruana started with Studebaker leaf springs. Keep up the good work.

Re: BEDGOOD KNIVES - 12/04/11 12:10 AM

Yeah, I figured the Chinese ones would be garbage steel, I hadn't thought of Pakistani ones though. I'll avoid them too, I imagine any third world country's product is inferior steel as well.

It's going to be hard to find anything made in the U.S.A. nowadays.

Re: BEDGOOD KNIVES - 01/08/12 01:13 PM

Here are two his and her knives I am making for somebody. The blades will be final sanded with 1000 grit paper to a satin finish. Then final polish and sharpend. These two will have pouch style sheaths. The brass and black goes really well with this wood.

Thanks everybody.
Pappy, I have only made one knife with deer antler so far. I do plan on trying some to make some in the future.
Robert, You are correct on the smaller handled knife for the lady. This was not intentional and I hope the buyers are happy with the results.

APFK# 1 Mini Replica
After a few weeks away, I was able to start fooling around with my hobby. This is what I made this weekend. It's my version of the #1 that is so famous to us all. This blade was made from a file that I had laying around. The handle is whitetail deer antler with brass and black spacers. The brass double hilt is soldered to the blade just like the real thing. The 3.5" blade has been quenched and tempered. Overall length is 7". I also made a mini Model C sheath for it. This turned out to be a great project and is one of my favorite knives that I have built to date. I still need to sharpen the blade and find some black cord for the sheath. I hope you guy's like it and there will be more to follow.

Here is a damascus knife for one of my buddies at work. This is my first full size damascus knife. I can't wait to see his face tomorrow at work when I surprise him with it. It turned out good for a $20.00 scrap piece of damascus. Those guys a Alabama Damascus Steel put out a top quality product.

Here is a Little Fighter with polished deer antler and brass hardware. The blade is 3.5" long and has a high polish. It will make a great letter opener and conversation piece.

Re: BEDGOOD KNIVES - 07/03/12 11:38 AM

Here is a small damascus camp knife that I've been working on. It has a 4.5" Alabama damascus steel blade with 416 layers of 4 types of steel. I am not sure about the type of wood for the handle. I would guess that it might be cocobolo. I have also started to use my small stamp. I hope you guys like it.

Re: BEDGOOD KNIVES - 07/03/12 03:38 PM

Jimmy,
I like it a lot!
Smaller stamp works well. Spacers are GREAT and the wood is cool!

Re: BEDGOOD KNIVES - 07/06/12 06:58 AM

Thanks a lot guys! I also like the smaller stamp. The brown canvas with black micarta spacer is my favorite. It really pops with the brass. The pictures don't do it justice.
