Rare knife - 04/16/18 10:42 PM

Dated model 22 BUT, it is a separate "S", so the blade was forged a couple years earlier than the sheath depicts. 1974 would be correct time period for three thick two thin non-leather handle. Plus, note the crow's beak handle without butt-cap!!! I have never seen one like this, ever. To top it off, the thing hole is unlined!!

the stone "pouch" on the back of the sheath?!? Shut the front door. Actually, the stone is just stuck in there. It seems to be a method to attach the knife to say a strap to a back pack or something of that nature.

Joe,
It's not a Model #22 and the back of the sheath was designed like that by Maurice Johnson to be worn horizontal or vertical. It's a Model #3-4" with #6 grind! It is 1/4" stock.
Below is mine out of The Captain's "STASH"...just for this reason: To show everyone what it is. Price on the back of the blade of $4600.00 may tell you from whence it came! I paid less than a third of that "BUT" (There's that word again) it is fairly rare, at the very least quite scarce!
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris
PS: Mine has 7 spacers...CCS

That is a nice knife.

I stand corrected. In a quick cursory look I saw a 22. Maybe the handle threw me off as did the quoted 4 1/2" blade length, which is really odd for a #3, and virtually the same length as a 22. So, pretty rare knife nonetheless.

Hi, I also saw it on Ebay, but somehow I thought it was some kind variant of #Denmark Special.

"Below is mine out of The Captain's "STASH"...just for this reason: To show everyone what it is."

Capt. Chris, Thanks for the laugh. I never heard "It's Not for Sale" put exactly like that. Struggling with the N or the O I've heard before.

I learn every day. I know that's why I read this Forum.

Great knives!

It has been suggested before that this knife could have / might have been some sort of DP variant. Years pass and who knows, but 1/4" stock, along with the fact that a #3, with a #6 grind had / had been for decades is certainly how I see it.
Best, Capt. Chris

I also saw that listing a few days ago. Thought of a horizontal carry method came to mind at the time.

The sticker is one of Rhett Stidham's old price stickers. Rhett was a great guy and knife dealer.... but not known for his low prices.
