Recommendations for engraving? - 09/25/15 09:02 PM

I need to send some knives out for engraving and wonder who some of you gentlemen have used in the past and would highly recommend?

Do you know what the turnaround time is? I have seen where many engravers are not taking any new work in for the rest of the 2015 calendar year?

How can Mr. Skaggs be contacted? I have a TC Special and a Mission Memorial that I would be interested in having him engrave. Thanks, Jerry

Here's one suggestion:

Paul Markow
Huntsville, AL.
(256) 513-9790 > paul.markow@gmail.com

I posted a sample of Paul's work in the Model 28 Knife of the Week thread, towards the bottom. I'm starting to see Paul's work on some custom knife forums.

Another forum member I believe had Paul do some work for him shortly after this was posted. I cannot remember who or what model knife, but it seems like I remember them being pleased with the results. A search of the forum posts might turn that thread up for you.

Just below my posts, Jim Gates posted a pic of a 28 that David Perdue did for him. Very very nice !!

Check them out, a couple more options for you..

Paul Markow did this for me. It took him like 2 or 3 days to do it. I think it was like a week's turnaround. Maybe he wasn't too busy then or maybe that's just how fast he works, I'm not sure.

I'm very happy with it. I'll use him again if I ever have anything else done.

Paul Markow is very good, and take about 4 to 6 month to send back the job done, I will add some pictures of a couple that he engraved for me two months ago...

Paul's wife Raluca does scrimshaw work also. You could kill 2 birds with one stone. You can see some of her work on FB.

Plus, both she and Paul will probably work the Florida Knifemakers Show later this year in Lakeland. That's where I met them both.

Thanks Michael, Do you know their facebook accounts? I'll be at the show anyhow.

Dang. I wish I'd known that. Trying to find someone to scrimshaw was impossible for me.

I'll have to get some ivory and get it to her.

I just got a quote from someone to engrave the hilt and butt cap on this one for $1050.00!

Can somebody pass me my nitro pills?

Re: Recommendations for engraving? - 10/06/15 05:19 PM

I did make contact with Paul Markow and he said that he wasn't taking in any Randall's for engraving, and focusing on high end custom knives at this time.

Re: Recommendations for engraving? - 10/06/15 06:51 PM

Focusing on high end custom knives? I consider that a kick in the nads. As far as I'm concerned my Randall's are high end custom knives.

Re: Recommendations for engraving? - 10/06/15 06:52 PM

That's what I said! I guess they (engravers) don't like the fact that they can't turn the knives easily to engrave the butt caps.....

Re: Recommendations for engraving? - 10/06/15 07:02 PM

Exactly what I was thinking. Randall's must be the new poor boys custom knife. (that's Bull Shxx) very surprising that someone that obviously does nice work would turn down work on Randall knives. I bet this will cost him a load of business in the future.

Re: Recommendations for engraving? - 10/06/15 08:02 PM

Exactly Max....he sorta kinda pooped in his chili. We'll take our Randall's and go play somewhere else.
